Crypto’s 2026 barbell market: on-chain experiments fade as firms crowd into the same trades

A TechFlowPost market analysis argues that many of crypto’s idealistic experiments have reached an endpoint in 2026, with closures, pivots, and sharp declines spreading across Bitcoin ecosystem projects, modular infrastructure, restaking, algorithmic stablecoins, NFTs, blockchain gaming, decentralized social networks, and other once-hyped sectors. The article says the market has not simply cooled. It has split. On one side sit speculation-heavy businesses such as meme coins, prediction markets, and decentralized perpetual futures exchanges. On the other are more stable, revenue-linked segments tied to the real economy, including stablecoins for payments, tokenized real-world assets, and vault products linked to RWA-backed lending. In between, many native on-chain categories have struggled to hold users, defend margins, or justify the risk taken by participants. The report points to a broad wave of shutdowns and strategic shifts in 2026, saying crypto companies with very different starting points are now building similar products because only a narrow set of sectors appears capable of resisting market weakness while still generating meaningful business income. Even so, the piece stops short of declaring every native crypto experiment dead, noting that a smaller group of projects still shows signs of product-market fit.

NEXST pitches a full-stack entertainment infrastructure built on AI, VR, Web3 and RWA

NEXST is positioning itself as a full-stack Web3 entertainment infrastructure project built around a simple idea: fan activity should not end as one-off consumption, but accumulate into long-term value. In a lengthy profile published by TechFlow, the project’s model is framed around “Fan Continuity,” a system meant to turn interactions between artists and fans into persistent, recorded, and potentially transferable digital rights. The report says NEXST is building across several layers at once. On the experience side, it has launched VR concert products through Xmersive VR LIVE, including content tied to K-pop groups UNIS and KISS OF LIFE. On the creation and engagement side, it is developing SAI, a fan co-creation platform based on ByteDance’s Seedance and Seedream models, along with AI-driven marketing tools and agents. On the asset layer, it is exploring tokenized entertainment rights through an RWA platform covering tickets, merchandise, exclusive content, and even fan participation in projects such as tours or albums. The article also outlines the planned NEXST Chain, the role of the $NXT token with a total supply of 600 million, and a quarterly buyback-and-burn program tied to 20% of revenue. It highlights existing partnerships with monoAI technology, CyberStep Holdings, and Neura, while pointing to upcoming catalysts including the NEXST-Gen Alliance, which is set to receive 10 million $NXT in treasury support.

Proof of Play to shut down, while Pirate Nation Foundation continues backing $PIRATE

Proof of Play, a blockchain gaming studio and onchain technology company, said on Aug. 4 that it will cease operations. The company said it had initially believed games built with blockchain technology could help open a new decentralized internet, but it ultimately failed to create a product that could validate that idea at scale or support a sustainable business. As part of the wind-down, Proof of Play said it will open-source as much of its code and art assets as possible for future builders, including Pirate Nation-related apps, smart contracts, founder NFTs, and intellectual property released under a CC0 license. The company also said the Pirate Nation Foundation, which operates independently from Proof of Play, will continue to support the $PIRATE token and keep its website online. Proof of Play points will not be redeemable. Separately, Shiba Story Go! has been acquired by a third party and will continue operating independently.
